The Campbell River Storm Junior Hockey Club are pleased to announce the acquisition of ’97 forward Jake McKenzie from the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.
The trade also involves the PJHL Abbotsford Pilots. Storm ’98 forward Ryan MacDonald was dealt to the Glacier Kings and in turn to the Abbotsford Pilots in exchange for ’00 defenceman Kevin Parra-Vaughn and future considerations.
Jake McKenzie spent three seasons with the Glacier Kings and proved himself an effective player with leadership skills. Storm Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone is thrilled to acquire the 20 year old, “Couldn’t be more excited about adding Jake to our family. A local Campbell River product, Jake is the type of player that will do anything for the team. A captain in Comox for two seasons, his leadership abilities are second to none. He is a prolific 5v5 scorer and is one of the best penalty killers in our league. He makes an already deep forward group even deeper.”
The 5’8”, 165 pounder played 118 games with Comox accumulating 92 points (41 goals, 51 assists.)
Ryan MacDonald, who is off to Abbotsford, was acquired by the Storm in the offseason and was a positive influence on a very young team. Stone had nothing but praise for the 19 year old from Port Coquitlam, “An unbelievable player and an even better person. Abbotsford is getting a player that has captain abilities. A player that competes for every inch of the ice every time he’s on the ice. It’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know Ryan on and off the ice and we wish him the very best of luck.”
Kevin Parra-Vaughn is going to the Glacier Kings. He is a big young defenceman (6’ 2”, 230 pounds) from Surrey. He started the year with the Richmond Sockeyes, after playing a season with the Colorado Rampage U16 of the T1EHL U16 league.
