CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – The Campbell River Storm of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) are pleased to announce the acquisition of 2007 born forward Koen Gauthier in exchange for forward Maxime Simard.
Gauthier comes to Campbell River following an impressive 2025-26 campaign in which he recorded 20 goals and 20 assists for 40 points in 42 games split between the Saanich Predators and the Nanaimo Buccaneers. The offensive-minded forward capped his season by earning a spot on the VIJHL South Division All-Prospects Team, a recognition that speaks to both his production and his potential. Gauthier will also attend the Surrey Eagles BCHL camp in August.
“When Koen became available in a trade it was a no brainer for us,” said Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone. “Maxime gets to return home to play his 20-year-old season and we get a dynamic 19-year-old talent. It’s increasingly rare to make a hockey trade where both teams benefit from adding talented players — and that’s exactly what this is. Koen is a dynamic offensive-minded forward that will help our group generate offense. He is the type of player that will bring fans at the Brindy to the edge of their seats with how he moves and sees the game.”
Gauthier is equally eager to make his mark in the North Division.
“Fans at the Brindy will get to see a quick playmaking offensive forward who can make plays all over the ice,” said Gauthier. “My goals for the season in Campbell River are to win the North Division and a VIJHL Championship! I’m looking forward to working with an experienced coaching staff and playing in front of a passionate hockey community that always is supporting the team.”
The Storm would like to thank Maxime Simard for his dedication and effort during his time in Campbell River and wish him nothing but success going forward.
