New Addition To Coaching Staff

Saturday, July 26, 2014

The Campbell River Storm Hockey club is proud to announce that Andy Seppanan has joined the Coaching Staff as an Assistant Coach. This will be the Campbell River native’s second VIJHL Coaching position.

Seppanen will join the bench staff specializing in player development, focused on goaltending. He will also bring a focus on tracking and implementing change to our program with the use of Statistics. Seppanen, who grew up in Campbell River, played his Junior Hockey as a goaltender in Alberta where he was awarded Playoff MVP his 20 year old season despite losing in the league finals. For the past several years, Seppanen has owned and operated Progressive Goaltending based out of Victoria, BC. His most recent Junior coaching stint was two seasons ago with the Westshore Wolves working with recent NHL draft pick Alec Dillon and Matt Chester, who gave the Storm fits last season as a twenty year old. Seppanen brings an added set of eyes to help provide our players and particularly our goaltenders, added on and off ice development.

“It’s a very sentimental feeling joining the Storm. Hockey has taken me all over Western Canada the past 10 years and it is literally a home coming. I grew up across the street from the Brindy and have been a rink rat since the age of 4. Now my life has come full circle back to where it all begun and I couldn’t be more excited to be spending my time at the Brindy again,” the newest coach of the Storm commented. “I am very anxious to get the season going after talking with Lee and hearing the high expectations for the season. Personally, I am looking forward to continuing my passion in helping develop kids move on with their Hockey careers,” he continued.

“After last season two main areas we felt we needed to improve on was specific development in our goaltending position and more detailed statistical evidence benefiting the team,” said Campbell River Storm Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone. “Not only does Andy help us in both of those areas, but more importantly, he brings the type of character and charisma to the rink we’re looking for on an everyday basis. I am very excited about the Staff we have assembled for the upcoming season.” The Storm will kick off the 2014-2015 season with their Identification camp this weekend. If you’re interested in attending to see the next wave of Storm prospects and players, camp will start Friday at 4:00pm with practices and 7:00pm with games. Games will continue on Saturday from 1:00pm to 7:45pm. Sunday features the 1st place game at 12:15pm. All practices and games will be at Arena #2 at Strathcona Gardens.
