CTC 2016 - Storm To Face Outlaws in Game 1

The Campbell Storm will take on the PJHL Champion, Mission City Outlaws, in the first game of the 2016 Cyclone Taylor Cup on Thursday at 4:00 as the home team at the Archie Browning Arena in Esquimalt.

The Black and Red faced the Fraser Valley squad last year on their way to capturing the provincial title. This is a better team than what the Storm faced in a very close 3-2 victory.

Warren Andrews, the former voice of the Storm, has called games for the Aldergrove Kodiaks, the Delta Ice Hawks and the Mission City Outlaws this season and he shares some comments on the PJHL Champions.

“The Mission City Outlaws have seemingly proved all PJHL pundits wrong this post-season. After a regular season that saw them capture their first divisional pennant in team history many thought if you shut down their top two scorers in Bryce Pisiak and David McGowan, you shut down the Outlaws. That seemed even more likely during the first round when they found themselves with their backs against the wall, down 3-0 to the Ridge Meadows Flames.

They proved to be more than a 1 line team, after rattling off 4 straight wins over both the Flames and Abbotsford Pilots, then 3 straight to start the final against the Grandview Steelers en route to their first ever PJHL championship.

Look past the dynamic duo of Pisiak/McGowan, and you've got a number of 4 year vets that won just 9 games on the season 4 years ago. Lots of veteran leadership like hard working agitator Brody Dyck, or smooth skating blueliner Brock Padgham. Kolby Steen went from scoring 17 goals during the regular season to a league leading 18 in the post season.

They have some big players, can come at you in waves and score in bunches, under the guidance of a fiery head coach (Brad Veitch) that seems to get the most of his players.”

When the Outlaws were down 3 games to none in the first round Warren said he felt that they would still capture the title (I have it on tape). Many thanks to Warren, who was a great contributor to the Storm Pregame Show on Fasthockey and Soundcloud this season.
